Hindu Sensibilities In Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal

Image
After centuries of foreign onslaught and occupation, Hindus are feeling liberated and heard — like their voices matter. When Savarkar spoke of a supra-caste Hindu unity materialising through the biggest Hindu reformation ever — Hindutva — he was, perhaps, referring to the present day. However, there is still trouble brewing within Hindu society. Either in their haste to criticise the Modi government or to satiate their justifiable anger, some Hindus are now demanding that the Indian state clamp down on content ‘offensive’ to Hindu sensibilities. The contours of this proposed ban have not been laid down, but it obviously won't stop at movies. Articles, books, art, songs, documentaries — you name it and it’ll be sucked in. Put simply, this will lay the ground for overarching state interference. Here's a closer look: Who defines offence? Let’s assume the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC, or the censor board) were to consider banning movies offensive to Hindus. Who dete

The Clash Of Civilisations

Even as the Hindu community stood aghast at the sheer brutality of Kanhaiya Lal’s murder in Udaipur, Rajasthan, another life was claimed – Umesh Kolhe in Amravati, Maharashtra - by fanatics belonging to the same religion – Islam. Their unending bloodthirst still not quenched, radical Muslims stabbed Munish Bhardwaj in Haryana. The horrific details of each of these incidents stunned Hindus. For the sole ‘crime’ of expressing support for a woman who quoted an Islamic scripture, Hindus lost their lives. And it would be naïve to believe the mob is done killing. Many more will die. Several heads will be chopped off. And this slow, discomforting reality that their lives are supremely dispensable breaks Hindus from within, each day, everyday. Till they become so conditioned to murders that a new body count doesn’t even register anymore. Hindus sigh and move on. The Clash of Incompatible Philosophies A life system that developed in the landmass between the mighty Indian Ocean and the imp

Trump or Biden, India-America relations are on an upward trajectory

There was a time not very long ago when India was looked down upon to the extent that we had become symbolic of ‘The third world’. Every malaise and societal ill was attributed to India, sometimes rightly and at other times, owing to the stereotype associated with ‘those sort of poor nations’. Times change. A lot of water has since flown in the Ganges, Yangtze, Amazon, Nile, Thames and every river that the readers consider important and today we are in an entirely different global setting - one in which every major country with the exception of our troublesome neighbour up north speak of their association with India fondly even as they seek to build on the ‘strong foundations’ we have with them. The mighty United States is no exception. The recent visit of their Secretaries of State and Defence are a case in point. Old habits die hard Joseph R. Biden and Donald J. Trump are theoretically representative of their country’s ideological bandwidth – Liberal to Conservative, Left

Witch, Vishkanya, Victim - And Weed

In the past three months, charges have been traded and insults flung all the way from Bihar to Bombay , from Delhi to Dawood, from Kolkata to Karachi to Kangana . Reason - you guessed right - the alleged suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput.   What have we achieved and where do we go from here?   The vilification of Rhea Chakraborty follows in the sad steps of hundreds of Indian women who have gone through a similar ordeal where they were blamed for everything that went wrong. Held guilty until proven innocent and even after proving their innocence, being perceived as guilty. ‘ Kalyug ’ really is here and we as countrymen, are the pallbearers of India’s decency & morality. Before we proceed This is not to say that the woman in question is above suspicion. That she did no wrong. That she’s not guilty. The charges against Ms. Chakraborty are for the parade of investigative agencies to look into. Should she be found guilty of anything, the law should take its own course. Just a

Chicken Dinner - The slayed chickens have come home to roost !

The Government dropped a bombshell right in the hearts of millions of gamers with the freshly imposed ban on 118 Apps of Chinese origin. But it wasn’t ban on apps like Camscanner or VideoByte that mattered to those who let out the loudest moans of despair upon hearing the news. PubG was the sole drug of those addicts and the ban forcefully snatched the one solitary escapade they had.   Once the cries of   these PubG addicts had   subsided, a question arose - expectedly so. WHY ???   Why Indeed !   WHY THE BAN?! The Government in its notification cited threats to sovereignty and integrity of India as grounds for the ban. They also   claimed that these apps   were illegally transmitting data of   Indian users to   servers located abroad, without the permission of their users. But all of this   sounds like common bureaucratic jargon. Right? So lets ease it up a bit and try to understand what was really going on.   USA invaded   Iraq in 2003. Evolution of TV NEWS in times of COVID-19

The ways in which the Covid-19 pandemic has changed us and the way we lead our lives is beyond comprehension. What once used to be a normal life- one that we called 'monotonous' and 'uneventful' at best, has now become something that the society yearns for - badly . I'M A REPORTER TOO !!  Phrases like ‘ flattening the curve’ , ‘bringing down the graphs’ , ‘community spread’ , ‘stages of the pandemic’, - All of which If would have been uttered in as late as March would have solicited unkind remarks involving the speaker being blamed for making the   conversation boring - have now become household terminologies. Suffice to say, the virus has turned us all into armchair epidemiologists , and aren’t we thrilled about it !   The pleasure of sharing some random pedestrian information in family groups or with classmates over WhatsApp isn’t something which can be put into words. And once some information reaches our ears, who exactly cares about assessing its authent

The Myth of Political Neutrality in India

You don’t have to be a political scientist to gauge the mood of people around you vis-à-vis politics. You don’t even need to carry out lengthy surveys and dial numbers to reach an informed opinion about what the community’s youth thinks when it comes to the contemporary politics. A plain and simple one to one conversation on matters pertaining to politics are enough to draw the conclusion that a large chunk of India’s youth - a section of the society that every political revolution counts upon - is today distant from the Indian polity to the extent that the spill over effects are now in the open. What was until now an implicit 'Rule' has - in this generation of increased social media presence and voicing of facts - become explicit – that politicians can get away with anything if the youth chooses to stay silent on the matter. The very same politicians would also run for cover if the bottled up anger/support of India’s young were to spill onto the streets. What's with th
